Before I used to think that I am liberal, I was totally apathetic to gay marriage here in the West. I would always say حريقة تحرقهمBut now I am strongly against it.
I have all the tolerance to people who classify themselves or are classified in these categories. However, legitimizing gay marriage is to me as legitimizing obesity.I understand that there's a controversy about wheather its genetics or environment (nature vs. nurture) that contribute to the condition or a combination of both.
But so is the case for obesity. It is proven that some people are more prone than others to become obese. Does that mean that we should encourage such conditions....?
My answer is of course NO!!I believe that we have to be tolerant to homosexuals just as we're tolerant to the obese...
In a similar fashion, just as we want to decrease the amount of obese people to reduce the potential of disease and the evolution of an epidemic we must also enforce policies that discourage the practice of homosexuality (in a respectful way) so that human progress continues......
To me, liberalism frees people from restrictions. Yet, I believe that restrictions are a necessary fact of the civilized world......
